Aurora's newly renovated Simmons Park to reopen
Fox Valley Park District invites the public to a grand reopening of Simmons Community Park at 4 p.m. Nov. 4. Renovations at the school/park area on Indian Trail include a community playground, large picnic shelter, improved soccer fields and baseball fields, a restroom building with utilities and an asphalt trail system throughout the park.
In addition, the parking lot will be enlarged to a 70-car capacity, reconfigured and built with permeable pavers, a bioswale and rain garden detention area.
The project is part of the 2008 Open Space, Park and Recreation Investment plan. It also will be supported by a $400,000 grant from the Illinois Department of Natural Resources and a $50,000 Illinois Department of Economic Opportunity grant.
