Geneva's Heartland School in Lego competition

Jill Nippert's third-grade class at Heartland Elementary School in Geneva is one of 20 classes selected to participate in the first Chicago Lego Education Landmark School Competition Friday through Sunday at McCormick Place in downtown Chicago.

The class researched the Kane County Courthouse on Third Street in downtown Geneva and submitted an essay on the importance of the courthouse as a local landmark. Based on the essay, Heartland was chosen to display its Lego version of the courthouse at the Lego KidsFest this weekend.

The Lego courthouse will be on display at McCormick Place from 4 to 9 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. The winner of the Lego competition will be decided by popular vote.

After the competition, the Lego courthouse will be on display at the Geneva History Center.
