Farnham tactics are underhanded
In the Oct. 16 newspapers, it was reported that Keith Farnham said that GOP fliers that raise serious questions about his communications with the governor are “lies.” The flier is based on a curious lack of phone call records provided by the governor's office to the GOP under the Freedom of Information Act. Farnham has since brought forth witnesses to the contrary, but he's still upset. Somehow, I just can't seem to care.
Two years ago, just before election day, Farnham distributed a flier that set a new low for campaign smear lies. It stated, “Ruth Munson gave wounded veterans the cold shoulder.” In fine print, it references House and Senate bills dealing with the state budget.
Farnham twisted Munson's best decisive actions for her constituents with a categorically untrue and intentionally misleading statement. This was at a time when then-governor Blagojevich raided more than $4.4 million from state programs earmarked for veterans, rehab fund, military family relief, veterans homes, etc. Munson opposed this action and voted against every attempt to take money away from programs for veterans.
I have worked with Ruth on a committee of veterans organizations to promote networking and references for serving veterans in need of help or direction.
On Oct. 5, Gordon Schnulle, a World War II veteran, had his letter to the editor printed. He had discovered that a photograph of him wearing his Marine Corps League cap was displayed on a Farnham flier. Schnulle made it quite clear that he never gave permission for his picture to be used and that neither he, nor the Marine Corps League, support Farnham. Despite Schnulle's complaints, these same fliers were being distributed by Farnham staff or volunteers at the Gail Borden Library on Oct. 16.
