Volunteer to become a Wish Granter

The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Illinois is seeking volunteers in Lake and McHenry counties who would like firsthand experience in granting wishes to courageous children battling life-threatening medical conditions.

The Foundation is especially looking for volunteers who are bilingual in English and Spanish.

The next training session for volunteers is scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26, at Advocate Condell Medical Center, 801 S. Milwaukee Ave., Libertyville. To attend the training, potential volunteers must complete the volunteer application and online training in advance; therefore RSVP is required in advance of the training.

Space is limited and preregistration is required. Reserve a space at this session by contacting Jamie Staab at staab@wishes.org or (312) 602-9413.

All volunteers must be over 18 and submit an application, reference and background check, and complete an online and brief in-person training to begin granting wishes.

Wish-Granting volunteers work in teams of two to help grant the wishes of children in their community. Volunteers plan and carry out wishes from start to finish with support from the Make-A-Wish Foundation staff.

Wish Granters are asked to give 10 to 12 hours per month to grant at least three wishes per year. This is a fun and rewarding opportunity for adults of all ages.

The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Illinois grants wishes to children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich their lives with hope, strength and joy.
