Penn St. QB Bolden's status unclear for Mich.

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. -- Penn State quarterback Rob Bolden's status is unclear for Saturday's Michigan game because of a possible head injury.

Coach Joe Paterno says the freshman signal-caller will undergo more tests Wednesday, but that if he had to make the immediate decision, Bolden would not play.

Bolden was in uniform but didn't do much at Monday's limited practice session.

He got hurt after he was tackled near the sideline in the second quarter of last week's win over Minnesota.

Paterno also says there will be an open competition between backups Matt McGloin and Kevin Newsome for the starting job if Bolden can't go. McGloin came in for Bolden last week and threw for two touchdowns against the Gophers, while Newsome took six snaps in that game.
