St. Charles North-Bartlett postponed until Monday

St. Charles North junior forward Mike Winhoffer wanted to play for a regional championship.

A little more than an hour later he wanted a snack from the concession stand.

Winhoffer wasn’t permitted to enter the field of play to get a hot dog or some other goody and after a two-hour rain delay he’ll have to wait until Monday to help the North Stars try to beat Bartlett in the Class 3A St. Charles North regional.

Lightning led to a nearly two-hour delay which ultimately forced the officials and coaches to postpone Saturday’s boys soccer contest between St. Charles North and Bartlett.

The game will be continued at where it left off, at 25:27 in the first half, on Monday. The time and location will be determined by Monday morning. Contact Bartlett or St. Charles North on Monday for the specifics.

Bartlett coach Ben Beary and St. Charles North coach Eric Willson discussed the possibility of weather playing a factor with St. Charles North’s field on Monday so the two mentioned Schaumburg as a possible site for the continuation game. Schaumburg is also the site of the sectional where the winner would play on Tuesday.

Both teams have experience this season in playing back-to-back games, but each has only won both of those games on one occasion out of four. The North Stars did it against Rockford Guilford and South Elgin while the Hawks accomplished the same feat against Grayslake North and Tremper, Wis.

“It’s difficult now because of potential back-to-back games for the winner, which is tough to do in the postseason, but it is what it is,” Willson said. “You’ve got to win games in a row to go downstate though anyway.”

The Class 2A Burlington Central regional final between Marmion and Burlington Central also was postponed until Monday.
