Yes for Lake Zurich roads
In deciding the Lake Zurich sales tax increase referendum, voters must choose between minimizing economic woes and maintaining village roads, equipment and facilities.
A half-percentage point boost on the 7 percent sales tax would generate $1.8 million to $2.2 million for that purpose.
After years of budget cuts, officials say there's not enough money to address these needs. It will likely cost residents an extra $50 per year, but the proposal also will hit nonresidents who shop in Lake Zurich.
It would apply to purchases such as alcohol, but not medicine and some groceries.
No one likes to pay more, but falling behind on maintenance will be costly in the long run, so we support this measure.
