This election, it's about us

One of the newest and greatest treasures we have in Illinois is the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum in Springfield. A recent trip to the museum proved to be a humbling and emotional experience as we took a refresher course in studying Lincoln the man, the politician, the father and husband.

Seeing the Lincoln sites a child on a school field trip is one thing, but going back as a seasoned Illinois citizen and registered voter is an awakening experience. So much so in fact it will factor in on who I vote for in the November election.

The people of Illinois have gotten a bad rap the past several years. We are a tolerant and forgiving people who want good government, great leaders, and people in whom we can put our trust. I am not so sure that all of the candidates in this election have the best interests of the people of Illinois in mind.

Illinois citizens deserve better.

I wonder what it would be like if Lincoln lived in our times. What would Honest Abe tell us about the way we elect our leaders? When you realize what he accomplished to keep our nation as one and sovereign, you realize the importance and significance of how good we have it today in Illinois.

This election is a whole lot more than just the economy and jobs. It's about restoring something that has been lost for some time.

So take the television ads with a grain of salt. Vote informed and vote for who will be the best public servant for the office they seek. It's not about them, this time, it's about us.
