Recall warranted for sake of our village
Our community faces a historic choice in this election whether to recall and remove a trustee from office.
Recall provides citizens direct control and a greater voice in government. It enhances democracy and makes officials accountable. Still, when recall was enacted, I hoped it never would be invoked.
Over the years, the village board has included a variety of people, differing in background, philosophy and approach to issues. But, they all shared consistent priority and unity of purpose to serve, work together, seek consensus, find solutions and enhance our community. Each understood that differing views can be handled without rancor, personal antagonism or vindictiveness.
That is no longer true. We have witnessed one trustee's destructive behavior, unconscionable discourse and unsubstantiated attacks. Her misuse of her title earned her censure. She is unable to discharge her duties, doesn't comprehend village functions, is unwilling to follow rules and procedures and chooses to be disruptive and counterproductive.
As a result, the business of governing has been thwarted. Her dysfunction causes harm beyond lost decorum at meetings; it has eroded the village's ability to provide quality services and has cost taxpayers money.
That, more than any other reason, is why it must end. Many who voted for her did not expect her vitriolic conduct, and they now see it was a mistake to send her to village hall.
You can correct that error and send the message that our community will not tolerate self-serving officials who cannot do their job and abuse our trust.
Please join with me and vote YES to recall and remove Lisa Stone from the office of trustee.
