Political humor good for the soul

It's belly-busting comedy how one political candidate slams the opponent in a TV ad. The politician paying for the ad is made to look like a guru walking on water; the opponent, like one of the Three Stooges having a bad day.

I guffaw at how noble the ad sponsor appears. I howl with mirth at how the opponent is pictured in derogatory, absurd poses.

These ads are far better comedy than anything on Saturday Night Live, Dave Letterman or Jay Leno. I'm grateful to political advisers for convincing ad agencies to produce these comedic ads for their political clients. Hey, by making me laugh, the ads nudge aside whatever stress I'm enduring at the moment. It can't get much better than that.

So let's hear it: Three cheers for politicians castigating opponents in TV ads. Humor is good for the soul.
