Palatine man killed in crash
A 21-year-old Palatine man was found dead Sunday morning by Barrington Hills police after the vehicle he was driving apparently struck a tree. Police identified the victim as David Schirmer.
Police said Schirmer was the driver of the 1995 Nissan Coupe that police discovered in a ditch on the north side of Lake-Cook Road west of Old Hart Road.
A passenger, identified as Justin Turjanski, 24, of Barrington, was taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital near Lake Barrington with injuries.
According to a news release from the Barrington Hills Police Department, police responded at 4:21 a.m. On arrival, they found the car in the ditch with extensive front-end damage.
Police said a preliminary investigation indicates that the car was traveling east on Lake-Cook Road when it veered off the roadway, striking a tree.
The accident remains under investigation by the Barrington Hills police and the Major Crash Assistance Team.
Lake County Coroner Richard Keller said an autopsy is being conducted. It is expected to be finished on Monday, as will toxicology testing.
However, he said, death appears to have resulted from multiple trauma.
