Pearlman honored by Bears

Brent Pearlman received an honor a day before Prospect planned to honor his successful tenure as football coach.

Pearlman was named Thursday as the Chicago Bears High School Coach of the Week. He joins Schaumburg’s Mark Stilling and Barrington’s Joe Sanchez as winners of the award this season from the Mid-Suburban League.

Prospect beat Elk Grove 42-41 in overtime last week to clinch at least a share of the MSL East title and win its seventh consecutive game after a season-opening loss to York. Pearlman’s career record is 102-33 in his 12th and final season at the school.

The Bears will donate $1,500 to the Prospect football program. Pearlman will be invited to the Bears-Patriots game Dec. 12 and will be recognized in an on-field ceremony. He will also receive a framed certificate and have the opportunity to attend a Bears practice and a “chalk talk” with head coach Lovie Smith.

Prospect will honor Pearlman with a brief ceremony between the sophomore and varsity home games tonight with Buffalo Grove. The varsity game starts at 7:30 p.m.

There will also be a postgame gathering in the Jean Walker Field House with current and former players and coaches and memebers of the community invited.

Broncos Care coat and toy drive: Barrington’s “Broncos Care” will hold its annual coat and toy drive before today’s 7:30 p.m. regular-season home finale with Palatine. Freshman players will be collecting donated items outside of the stadium doors and any winter clothing items will be accepted.

All proceeds will go to the Barrington Giving Day.
