Northern Illinois routs Central Michigan 33-7
DE KALB — Chad Spann rushed for three touchdowns and 101 yards while Michael Cklamovski added four field goals in Northern Illinois' 33-7 Mid-American victory over Central Michigan on Saturday.
The Huskies (6-2, 4-0) scored 30 unanswered points on the way to their fifth straight victory and first over the Chippewas (2-6, 1-4) since 2007.
The loss was Central Michigan's fifth straight and its most lopsided of the season.
Spann has scored at least one rushing touchdown in seven consecutive games and has 11 for the season. This was his fourth 100-yard game in the last five. Spann scored on runs of 13 and 12 yards in the third quarter and added a 2-yard rushing TD with 5:33 remaining.
Cklamovski hit three of his field goals in the first half as Northern Illinois opened a 9-7 lead. He missed a 49-yard attempt on the Huskies' opening possession, then hit tries of 25, 21 and 24 yards — all three after NIU drives stalled inside the Central Michigan 10-yard line. The Huskies dominated on the ground, gaining 282 yards and holding the ball for 36 minutes.
Central Michigan capped a six-play, 80-yard drive with an 11-yard touchdown pass from Ryan Radcliff to Kito Poblah for a 7-3 lead with 14:18 left in the second quarter.
Cklamovski missed a 44-yard attempt with 10:30 left in the third quarter, then hit a 19-yarder with 5:41 left in the game.
Poblah had four receptions for 66 yards and ran his consecutive-game reception streak to 31. The record of 54 belongs to Bryan Anderson of Central Michigan, who set it from 2006-09.
Radcliff was 17-of-25 for 178 yards and was picked off three times — twice by NIU linebacker Tyrone Clark. Cody Wilson caught 11 of Radcliff's passes for 115 yards.
Northern Illinois quarterback Chandler Harnish was 12-of-19 for 138 yards.
