Disagrees with Foster endorsement
The Daily Herald ignored facts and was internally inconsistent in its recent endorsement of Bill Foster for a second term as representative for the 14th Congressional District. The Daily Herald touted Foster's “independence” from his party's leadership and his concerns about “exorbitant deficit spending,” but reported that Foster voted with his leadership in favor of “the massive stimulus package” and the federal takeover of health insurance.
The Daily Herald ignored the trillions of dollars of “deficit spending” Foster's votes have cost the American taxpayers and the fact that Foster's voting record coincides with Nancy Pelosi's more than 92 percent of the time. I ask the Daily Herald: “What independence?” and, “What concern about deficits?”
Additionally, the Daily Herald ignored blatant lies by Foster's campaign about his principal opponent, Randy Hultgren. Voters expect some “negative” advertising, but don't want lies. Hultgren has run “negative ads” about Foster, but those ads truthfully describe the effects of Foster's votes: decreases in Medicare, increases in health insurance premiums, higher unemployment and increases in the federal deficit.
On the other hand, Foster's ads distorted Hultgren's receptiveness to proposed alternatives to the current federal income tax into support for a 23-percent national sales tax. That's a lie. Another Foster ad alleged that Mr. Hultgren's firm profited from the housing crisis and received federal “bailout money,” but the facts actually concerned a different company.
The Daily Herald's endorsement ignored those falsehoods, as it did Foster's misuse of the franking privilege to mail out campaign literature at taxpayer expense.
