Scouting Libertyville at Warren

Libertyville (3-5, 2-3) at Warren (5-3, 3-2)

When: 7:30 p.m., today

Last week: Libertyville lost to Stevenson, 35-21; Warren def. Zion-Benton, 42-3.

Skinny: Warren is playoff eligible with a minimum five wins, but the Blue Devils would have to qualify on points and that doesn't make head coach Dave Mohapp entirely comfortable. “There's always a chance we can make it in with the five wins, but that's not what you want to rely on,” Mohapp said. “I really think we need to get that sixth win to get in so we don't have to rely on any help from anyone else. We are really motivated to win this game.”…Mohapp says that even though a win won't extend Libertyville's season, motivation shouldn't be a problem in its locker room either. The Wildcats, still sore about losing a close game to Stevenson last week, can get one last shot on their way out by playing the role of spoiler. “I think we'll see a very fired up Libertyville team,” Mohapp said. “They can throw caution to the win and play (with reckless abandon). It can be a motivation to knock someone else out of the playoff. Plus, their seniors are going to want to finish with a win.”…One Libertyville senior that Mohapp is particularly concerned about is quarterback AJ Schurr, who has racked up more than 1,000 passing yards this season while directing a high-scoring spread offense. “What an impact player he is,” Mohapp said of Schurr. “He's got an unbelievable arm and he just fits that offense. To run the spread, you need a quarterback who cannot only throw, but is athletic enough to run the ball. You also need a guy who is very intelligent and can make decisions on the fly. Schurr is all of that and that's what makes him so dangerous.”…Warren's most dangerous weapons are in the backfield. Last week against Zion-Benton, fullback Tom Lindal rushed for 136 yards and 3 touchdowns while Nolan Sordyl rolled up 116 rushing yards and 2 touchdowns.
