Will Co. drops murder charges against CPA

JOLIET — Will County Prosecutors have dropped first-degree murder charges against a semiretired Romeoville CPA accused of killing his wife with a hammer.

Chuck Pelkie, a spokesman for the Will County State's Attorney's office, told the Chicago Tribune that two pathologists who reviewed the case couldn't say with certainty that the hammer blow to the head caused the heart attack that ultimately killed 66-year-old Carol Sadler.

Pelkie said that a result, the charges against 67-year-old John Sadler were reduced Thursday to aggravated battery to a senior citizen and aggravated domestic battery. His bail was lowered from $3 million to $300,000.

John Sadler was charged in July with killing his wife, then leaving her body by the front door of their home for more than a week.

Sadler's attorney said Thursday he was happy with the reduced charges.
