Examiner: Officers' killer shouldn't be freed

A hearing examiner is recommending that a 70-year-old man who was convicted in the 1967 killings of two Northlake police officers shouldn't be freed on parole.

Ronald Del Raine's case came before the U.S. Parole Commission on Wednesday at the federal prison in Colorado where he's serving his 199-year sentence.

Northlake Deputy Police Chief Norman Nissen Jr. testified at the hearing by phone. Nissen says the Parole Commission examiner recommended keeping Del Raine in prison, and a spokeswoman says the U.S. Parole Commission will issue a final ruling within 21 days.

Del Raine was one of three men who took part in the robbery a Northlake bank. Two officers were shot and killed in a gunbattle with the robbers.
