Comcast SportsNet picks up Dan Patrick simucast
Comcast SportsNet Chicago picks up the video simulcast of “The Dan Patrick Show” syndicated by Fox Sports Radio from 8 to 11 a.m. weekdays starting Monday, Oct. 25. The program, from the popular former ESPN host, will also inject local sports highlights. Patrick's radio show has been airing on tape from 1 to 4 a.m. on all-sports WSCR 670-AM, but Monday will be his last night. Les Grobstein will be taking the overnight shift from midnight to 5.
‘Dead Set' against it
The Independent Film Channel gets in the Halloween spirit by importing the five-part series about flesh-eating British zombies “Dead Set.” It will run all next week at 11 p.m. Monday through Friday, repeated in a marathon starting at 7 Halloween night, Oct. 31.
Ebert shows off
Turner Classic Movies has been letting TV and movie critics program evenings all month, but Chicago's own Roger Ebert helps bring it to a close with a stunning double-feature Wednesday, Oct. 27: “The Lady Eve,” at 7 p.m., with Barbara Stanwyck and Henry Fonda starring in one of the best and most biting romantic comedies ever made, written and directed by Preston Sturges, followed at 9 by “Sweet Smell of Success,” a 1957 noir potboiler starring Burt Lancaster as a ruthless gossip columnist and Tony Curtis as an utterly amoral press agent. It's two of the all-time great movie scripts back to back. Well done, Roger.
Return of the jugheads
Kevin Smith returns to the popular favorites from his “Clerks” series with the spinoff sequel “Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back.” Their sense of humor may not be for everyone, but it's definitely for Waste Watchers and stoners. Smith himself plays the silent partner, of course. It's at 7 p.m. Saturday on WGN Channel 9, rerun at 1 a.m. for night owls.
