Kane County District 7: Silva

Incumbent Gerald Jones, who barely survived the primary, faces a tough race with Independent Monica Silva.

The discontent within his own party was exacerbated when Jones led the vote to downsize the county health department and shift social services to private providers.

The senior Democrat on the county board, Jones has worked with Republican leadership, but Silva represents a growing Hispanic population in the district and she is in tune with what all constituents want.

She has a strong contingent of both Republicans and Democrats supporting her. We're hoping she steps to the plate in a big way on issues, just as she did during the health department downsizing debate.

It's time for a change.
