No one injured during Inverness home fire

No one was injured during a basement fire in an Inverness home Wednesday afternoon.

Crews responded to the fire in a single-family home on the 0-99 block of South Roberts Road just after 3 p.m. Wednesday and found smoke pouring out of almost every window, said Battalion Chief Edward McGarry of the Palatine Rural Fire Protection District.

The fire was contained to a single room in the basement, which officials said was badly burned.

Seven neighboring departments were on the scene and were able to have the fire out in 10 or 15 minutes, McGarry said.

He said the department needs to call for such help because there are no fire hydrants in the area.

The fire department estimates the damages at $50,000 to $75,000, mainly from smoke.

No foul play is suspected, but the fire is still under investigation, McGarry said.
