Lake Regional Schools Superintendent: McDermott

The Lake County Regional Superintendent of Schools advocates for education and performs regulatory functions, such as teacher certification, for the 45 districts it represents.

Democratic challenger Dan McDermott sees that as a “bare minimum description" and one he wants to exceed.

We like the energy and passion he wants to bring to the office and give him our endorsement. As principal at North Chicago High School, McDermott faces many challenges, but he stresses empowering students, staff and parents and has created a business/education foundation that has raised $2 million. Those aren't new ideas, but implementing them in such a tough environment shows a special drive and determination.

Republican Roycealee J. Wood has held the post since 2003 and has done an admirable job, but we think McDermott represents a unique opportunity for change.
