DuPage County Board chairman: Cronin
Two quality candidates are contending for DuPage County Board chairman.
Democrat Carole Cheney, an attorney, clearly has done her homework, talked to county and community leaders, and is conversant on all the issues. We think she could work with the mostly GOP county board.
However, longtime Republican state Sen. Dan Cronin brings a resume too good to ignore. He's earned a reputation in Springfield as a legislator who can work both sides of the aisle to get things done.
And while it's easy to argue DuPage County is well-run, we're sure Cronin won't be complacent. He's already shown he's not afraid to shake things up, proposing legislation to overhaul the largely unaccountable DuPage Water Commission, opposing the county's recent plan to borrow $70 million for infrastructure improvements and vowing to eliminate all “special perks and benefits the county offers.
We endorse Cronin, whom we believe will be a strong leader something we sorely need in these difficult economic times.
