North Central College, community celebrate homecoming

North Central College is inviting community members to celebrate homecoming this weekend with a series of public events that include performances by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, family-friendly theatrical productions, a parade and, of course, a football game.

Events get start Thursday, Oct. 21, and continue through Sunday, Oct. 24.

Here's a look at some of what's available:

Ÿ “The Sleepy Hollow Plays, a new original work in which Chicago-based director Matthew Miller commissioned four playwrights to adapt the classic Washington Irving short story. Performances are at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, 10 p.m. Friday, 7:30 p.m. Saturday and 2 p.m. Sunday in the theater at Meiley-Swallow Hall, 31 S. Ÿ Chicago Symphony Orchestra, featuring violin soloist and guest conductor Gil Shaham, performs at 8 p.m. Thursday in Wentz Concert Hall at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Ÿ Alumni Awards and Recognition Ceremony at 5 p.m. Friday at Wentz Concert Hall at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Free.

Ÿ Annual homecoming concert featuring performances by the North Central College Concert Choir, Concert Winds, Women's Chorale and various chamber ensembles at 8 p.m. Friday at Wentz Concert Hall at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave. Free.

Ÿ Morning run with National Champion Cross Country Team at 6:30 a.m. Saturday in front of Merner Field House, 450 S. Brainard St.

Ÿ Athletic Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony at 11 a.m. Saturday at Wentz Concert Hall at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E. Chicago Ave.

Ÿ Homecoming parade at 12:45 p.m. Saturday, with a route that begins at North Brainard and East School streets and proceeds south on Brainard to Championship Plaza, where there will be a pep rally.

Ÿ Cardinals vs. Illinois Wesleyan University football game at 2 p.m. at Benedetti-Wehrli Stadium, 455 S. Brainard St. Tickets are $6 per person.

Ÿ Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons perform at 8 p.m. Saturday at Pfeiffer Hall, 310 E. Benton Ave. Tickets are $95, $85 and $80. Call the North Central College Box Office at (630) 637-SHOW (7469) or visit www.northcentralcollege.edu/showtix.

Ÿ Worship service at 9:30 a.m. Sunday at Koten Chapel at Kiekhofer Hall, 329 E. School St.

Ÿ Theatreworks USA brings “Charlotte's Web to life in Joseph Robinette's play at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Sunday at Wentz Concert Hall at the Fine Arts Center, 171 E.
