Village of Lombard, CUB partner on program to save residents on energy costs

The Cub Energy Saver campaign is a free online service that has already shown households how to save money on energy bills and rewards those enrolled in the program with incentives and free energy efficient light bulbs.

"Any resident who signs up for the program will get mailed a free money-saving Compact Fluorescent Light (CFL) bulb and qualify for periodic drawings to win a month of free electricity," stated Kolata at the press conference where the announcement was made. CUB will also give the Village five CFL bulbs for every resident who signs up for the program, up to 10,000 bulbs.

"CUB Energy Saver fits in nicely with our mission statement," said Mueller, "to work together with residents and businesses to make Lombard a community of excellence," he added. "Any community deserving of that title strives to improve its environment and save its customers money, and CUB Energy Saver helps us do both."

A pilot version of CUB Energy Saver has been showing participants how to cut their energy usage by an average of about six percent or about $200 per year. The program only requires a participants email address, home address and ComEd account information to build a money-saving plan. Those who connect CUB Energy Saver to their ComEd accounts will receive monthly emails on how their actions are directly impacting their power bills, along with suggestions on how to improve.

In addition to Mueller and Kolata, Trustee Dana Moreau, Chair of the Environmental Concerns Committee and Lonnie Morris, Sierra Club Representative and Cool Cities Chair were on hand to support the program and speak of the positive impact such a program can have on a community.
