Administer Justice to hold fundraising banquet

Administer Justice, a charitable legal aid office, will host a fundraising banquet Thursday, Nov. 4.

Speaking that evening on the impact of poverty in the suburbs will be the Rev. Tony Evans, senior pastor of the Oak Cliff Bible Church and president of the Urban Alternative in Dallas, Texas.

The banquet will be held at the Seville, 700 Barrington Road in Streamwood. Doors open at 5:45 p.m.; dinner will be served at 6:30 p.m.

Recent studies have revealed that 1 out of 3 people living in the suburbs will experience poverty firsthand. Job loss, abandonment, disability and extreme debt has led to the suburban poverty population increasing by as much as 125 percent in some Kane County communities.

The banquet will provide insight into the need for legal and financial advocacy to those who cannot afford to hire an attorney or the services of a financial counselor.

There is no charge to attend. Reservations are required by Wednesday, Oct. 27, and can be made online.

A registration link can be found at www.administerjustice.org. Reservations also can be made by calling (847) 844-1100, ext. 27.

Administer Justice is a charitable, nonprofit organization offering legal and financial services to low-income individuals. It has an Elgin office at 1750 Grandstand Place, Suite 15, and a satellite office at Wheaton Bible Church in West Chicago.

In addition, Administer Justice invites the public to free foreclosure workshops at 3:30 p.m. Thursdays at its Elgin legal aid office. Taught by an attorney, the workshop will answer questions such as: What should I expect if I am being foreclosed upon? What are my options? Do I need to appear in court? What can be done?

“We understand that people facing foreclosure are overwhelmed, and we want to help them understand what should and should not be done in such circumstances, said attorney Theresa Buskey. “We encourage them come to us before things become hopeless. We want to help them stay in their homes, if possible.

For details on the workshops, call (847) 844-1100, or visit administerjustice.org.
