Metal, Texas-style
Metal, Texas-style
Suburban headbangers will get a double dose of Southern metal this weekend, as the Texas Hippie Coalition rolls into the area. Led by hulking lead singer Big Dad Ritch, the band delivers hard-driving metal with the Texas outlaw spirit of such disparate acts as Waylon Jennings and Pantera.
Texas Hippie Coalition plays Saturday, Oct. 23, at the Hangout, 51 S. Grove Ave., Elgin, (847) 531-5883. The band then plays with Cowboys From Hell and Bloodstream Parade on Sunday, Oct. 24, at the Penny Road Pub, 545 Penny Road, Barrington. Show begins at 7 p.m. $10. (847) 428-0562.
Honoring a '70s legend
Cabaret artist Lisa Rock and accompanist Ken McMullen have put together a tribute to the life and music of Karen Carpenter, driving force behind beloved 1970s pop crooners the Carpenters.
7 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 24, at the Metropolis Performing Arts Centre, 111 W. Campbell St., Arlington Heights. Tickets cost $25 to $35. Call (847) 577-2121.
