Wheeling street is dangerous speedway
I have been a 38-year resident of Wheeling, Ill., and live near the northeast corner of St. Armand and Chestnut Lane. For the last several years it appears that a lot of individuals driving along St. Armand Lane tend to use this street as a Daytona 500-type road.
They seem to be challenged to see exactly how fast they can get their cars up to before the stop light at Dundee Road, or the stop sign in front of Eugene Field School, sometimes in excess of 45 miles per hour.
Now, I have called the Wheeling police nonemergency number and have complained several times as to this. Yet, it never seems that the police ever patrol this area. Well, when there is a squad car, they claim they are not traffic enforcement, and they cannot do anything, or it is past 10 p.m. in the evening.
To the best of my knowledge, the speed limit is 25 miles per hour on residential streets. If the police can take radar on Dundee Road, where the speed limit is 35, why in the blazes can't they do anything here, on St. Armand Lane?
Can't we put in a radar camera similar to what is used in road construction areas, be put in here someplace, or how about a speed bump or two, similar to the one's at the Wheeling Walmart? This has to stop before someone gets killed, and lawsuits ensue!
