Congress, 6th District: Roskam
We haven't always agreed with U.S. Rep. Peter Roskam's hawkish stands on war and his staunchly conservative views on social issues. We still don't. However, Republican Roskam, seeking re-election in the 6th Congressional District, which spans much of DuPage County and northwest Cook County, deserves credit for attacking health-care problems by looking for ways to lower insurance costs. He also has sponsored legislation that would have reduced Medicaid fraud and waste. Roskam has done more than just talk about creating jobs; he's met with numerous businesses in the area and hosted a job fair that drew 100 employers and 2,000 job-seekers. We endorse Roskam. His Democratic opponent, 26-year-old environmental biologist and Wheaton College graduate Benjamin Lowe, is making his first run for office and is running a low-budget, low-profile race. He's a bright and sincere man, but needs some seasoning.
