Collapse of aged AT&T vault will extend St. Charles Road LAPP Project

The work on St. Charles Road will last a little longer as an unforeseen replacement of a collapsed 70-year-old AT&T vault will add to the timeline of the project, according to the Lombard Department of Public Works.

The vault replacement, located at Main Street and St. Charles Road, will begin on Monday by AT&T. It is expected to take two weeks to complete. While the contractor will begin paving St. Charles Road tomorrow, the majority of the paving work including permanent striping, is expected to be completed with the exception of the intersection of Main Street and St. Charles Road.

Due to the replacement of the vault at Main and St. Charles, parking on the north side of St. Charles Road between Main Street and Park Avenue will be temporarily eliminated and there will be temporary traffic lane reconfigurations on all roads at the intersection. This also will require suspension of paving activities in the intersection until the replacement of the vault is completed.
