Scouting Imm. Conception at Aurora Christian

Immaculate Conception (5-2) at Aurora Christian (4-3)

Game time: 7:30 p.m. today

Last year: Aurora Christian 26, Immaculate Conception 20 (OT).

Last week: Immaculate Conception 39, Wheaton Academy 28; Montini 42, Aurora Christian 0.

Outlook: A crucial Suburban Christian Conference crossover tilt. Immaculate Conception coach Mike Alberts is wary the Knights will have enough playoff points (currently 28) to get in. Aurora Christian simply needs that fifth win with two tough foes to end the season. Should IC run the ball as it did last week they'll be tough to stop. The Knights ran for 422 yards on 32 carries with 80-yard touchdown runs by quarterback Cody Kotlow and Conor Hendricks, who ran for 229 yards while Jose Godinez ran for 90 yards and 3 touchdowns. Robert Rivera (6-1, 280), who Aurora Christian coach Don Beebe likes a lot, leads the charge on a well-schooled offensive line. Kotlow didn't throw one pass, but Beebe won't count out the play-action to IC receiver Kyle Siranovic. Particularly when two-way starters Brandon Mayes and Andrew Cassara are suffering nagging injuries, to go with receiver Chad Beebe's more serious broken foot. Injuries and red zone mistakes bit the Eagles against Montini and as Don Beebe said, "That's a bad formula for going against the 5A state champs." Thing is, quarterback Anthony Maddie's spread offense is somewhat similar to that run by Wheaton Academy, which was met by IC's bend-but-don't break defensive effort. The Eagles do offer a tougher one-two punch on the ground of Maddie and hard inside runner Mitch Holtz. Don Beebe couldn't tell if his receiver corps will be back to near full strength or remain a two-wide set of Grayson Roberts and sophomore Cory Windle. Regardless expect a good game. Last year, IC committed a penalty on the would be game-winning extra point. Aurora Christian blocked the next try, and Johnny Magee won the game on a 5-yard run in overtime.

Next week: Immaculate Conception at Chicago Christian (2-5, 1-3), Oct. 22; Aurora Christian at St. Francis (4-3, 1-3), Oct. 22.
