Men's basketball preview: Illinois-Chicago

Illinois-Chicago

Last year: 8-22, 3-15 (9th in Horizon)

Key players lost: PF Jeremy Buttell, PG Spencer Stewart, SG Chris Buchanan.

Newcomers: F Paul Carter (sr.), PG Daniel Barnes (jr.), PF Paris Carter (jr.), C Dorian Tyler (jr.), C Darrin Williams (jr.), F Eddie Denard, SG Shawn King.

First practice: 5 p.m. Friday

Initial issues: Less than two months after being hired to replace Jimmy Collins, the 37-year-old Moore gets to run his first official Div. I practice. The charismatic former Wisconsin assistant and his new staff already have five commitments for next year's team, but now he's all about melding the team's five returning scholarship players (led by guards Robo Kreps and Zavion Neely) with the seven guys Collins recruited before stepping aside.
