Wheeling airport reports laser directed at planes

Buffalo Grove police have been unable to pinpoint the source of a green laser beam that was apparently being directed at planes approaching Wheeling's Chicago Executive Airport last Friday.

Airport control tower authorities notified Buffalo Grove, Lincolnshire and Vernon Hills police departments shortly after 8 p.m. Oct. 8, about the laser beam coming from an open space north of the airport. An officer checked out the baseball field behind Vernon Township Administration Building, 3050 N. Main St., Buffalo Grove, and found nothing, said Buffalo Grove Police Cmdr. Steve Husak.

He added police have not received any previous complaints of a laser beam being directed at planes.
