Man held up in Arlington Heights parking lot

The Cook County Sheriff's Department responded to an armed robbery just after midnight Tuesday in Arlington Heights.

A 25-year-old man who was changing his vehicle's antifreeze in a parking lot on the 2300 block of West Nichols Road was approached by three black men wearing dark clothes and dark cloths over their faces.

The men who were armed with a weapon approached the victim from behind and told him to put his hands up, said Liane Jackson of the sheriff's office.

The victim told the men to take whatever they wanted, and had his wallet and two cell phones stolen, Jackson said. The thieves fled the scene on foot.

The Arlington Heights police also responded to the call and told the sheriff's office that a similar incident occurred on Sunday with the descriptions of the suspects matching the descriptions given by the victim Tuesday morning, Jackson said.

Jackson said the two incidents had the same “M.O.," or distinct pattern.

The Arlington Heights Police Department would not comment on the connection of the two crimes, other than to confirm they are investigating. The sheriff's office would not disclose the type of weapon used.

Police canvassed the area Tuesday morning but were unable to find any suspects matching the descriptions.

No one was injured during the robbery.
