Bartlett CROP Walk raises $6,500
Walkers from several Bartlett congregations came together for the annual Dick Poremba Memorial Bartlett CROP Hunger Walk recently, and raised nearly $6,500 to fight local and world hunger.
This was the seventh year for the Bartlett CROP Walk. Last year, the walk was renamed in honor of the late Dick Poremba, a local veteran whose involvement with the Bartlett CROP Walk from the beginning was evidence of his passion for helping others.
Each year, thousands of walkers across the United States take to the streets to raise awareness of and money for local and world hunger. The Bartlett CROP Walkers joined these ranks once again and this year included members from Living Lord Lutheran Church, Immanuel United Church of Christ, Good Shepherd United Methodist Church and Resurrection Catholic Community, as well as representatives from Feeding Northwest DuPage food pantry.
Twenty-five percent of the money raised will benefit the needy in our community via Feeding Northwest DuPage and the Hanover Township food pantry.
The CROP Walkers' motto is “We walk because they walk! “They are the millions of people all over the world who do not have the basic necessities of human life, such as clean water and food. “They are struggling to become self-sufficient and must walk everywhere, and sometimes long distances just to eat and drink.
Church World Service began the CROP Hunger Walk decades ago to help people fight world hunger as well as hunger in their own communities. Visit churchworldservice.org for more information on hunger in the United States and all over the world, as well as more news on the CROP Hunger Walk.
