Crash closes Algonquin Road
Route 62 in Barrington Hills was closed Saturday morning for almost four hours after a collision between a minivan and a semi-truck, police said
Barrington Hills Police Lt. Curt Underwood said the crash occurred around 8:02 a.m. on Route 62 between Old Sutton Road and Bateman Road. A 2002 Kia van was headed west on Route 62 near Springwood Lane when the van crossed over the center line and struck the semi-truck which was in the eastbound lane, he said.
The driver of the minivan, 28-year-old Christopher Ciupinski of Westmont, was taken to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington with nonlife-threatening injuries. The driver of the truck, 53-year-old Mario Minjares of Round Lake Beach, was not injured.
Ciupinski struck the driver's side fuel tank of Minjares' truck, causing a fuel spill, police said. The road was closed until about 11:45 p.m. as firefighters cleaned up about 80 gallons of diesel fuel from the road.
“There was quite a traffic jam for awhile, said Barrington Fire Department Lt. Bill Brown. Traffic was rerouted via Old Sutton Road.
It was unclear what caused Ciupinski to veer into the opposite lane, officials said.
Barrington Hills and Alqonquin-Lake in the Hills police and fire officials responded to the scene.
