Three separate crashes stall I-90 at Arlington Heights
Three separate accidents on I-90 near Arlington Heights Road, all occurring within an hour, shut down two lanes of traffic for more than two hours Thursday evening.
In total, 12 vehicles were involved in crashes between about 7:30 p.m. and 8:30 p.m, the Illinois State Police said. All three crashes occurred within a one-mile stretch of inbound I-90. The first crash at 7:24 was a four-car collision in which the driver that started the accident fled the scene, police said. One female victim was taken to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights with minor injuries.
Traffic was brought a near-standstill after police closed the left two lanes.
A six-vehicle, bumper-to-bumper collision occurred about an hour after the first crash. Two people were sent to Northwest Community Hospital with minor injuries.
A two-car collision occurred sometime between the two pileups. Police said no one was injured in that crash.
The lanes were reopened shortly after 9 p.m.
