Five injured in Spring Grove Crash

A Gurnee woman and four children were hospitalized with nonlife threatening injuries Friday afternoon following a two-vehicle crash at a stop sign in Spring Grove.

Village police and fire officials responded to a call around 3:45 p.m. at the intersection of Sunset and Johnsburg roads. Four surrounding police departments also assisted at the scene.

The Gurnee woman and four children were in a minivan traveling west on Sunset when they struck another vehicle headed north on Johnsburg. The northbound vehicle contained four passengers, none of whom were injured in the crash.

Police are still investigating the cause of the crash.

“Eyewitnesses said the driver of the minivan stopped at a stop sign and then continued driving and failed to yield to the right-of-way of the northbound vehicle, said Sgt. Dave Holem of the Spring Grove police department.

The Gurnee woman and four children were taken to Centegra Hospital in McHenry and treated for minor injuries.

Both roads were closed for about 45 minutes as patients were treated and the streets cleared of debris.
