Scouting Proviso East at Leyden

Proviso East (0-6, 0-3) at Leyden (3-3, 2-2)

When: 7:30 p.m. today at West Campus, Northlake

Last week: Proviso East lost to Downers Grove South 28-0; Leyden d. Willowbrook 31-0

Outlook: Leyden continues its drive for five and a playoff berth and also looks to start a winning streak against a program that had been a perennial nemesis. "On paper we have to look like the favorites," said Leyden coach Tom Cerasani, whose team won 21-14 last year to end an eight-game losing streak to the Pirates. "But I don't know what it is about them. And their defense, it's not like they don't have guys." But Leyden's defense led by LBs Nelson Lugo and Diego Moreno and S Steve Travis allowed only 104 yards last week and the Pirates have scored only 18 points and were shutout for the fourth time last week. The Eagles also got some things going offensively as Justin Bolo had 110 yards for their first 100-yard rushing game of the year. "We had a nice push upfront," Cerasani said. "Hopefully we can make a run here now."
