Get GOP stance on social security right

I know it is asking a lot for the Democrats writing letters to the editor and on the national stage to be truthful or at best educated on their opinions with respect to the Republicans' stance on Social Security. But one day they may want to try.

They claim the GOP and its candidates want to dismantle Social Security by “privatizing" it. Wrong.

When Social Security was started, there were 50 people working for each retiree that would collect, and people were not living as long. Seemed like a solvent solution for a safety net for those that could or would not save for their own future retirement. However, knowing Social Security has been raided by the government for decades, for every one person working today, three are retiring, and people are living longer. The Republicans know it is no longer solvent.

So, instead of burying their heads in the sand, the Republicans, starting with George W. Bush, have presented an optional plan to use some of your Social Security dollars to invest yourself. Repeat, an optional, not mandatory, plan.

This plan would only allow you to take a percentage for personal investment while keeping the greater percentage in Social Security in case your investments were not positive.

What is wrong with that ... allowing individuals to choose for themselves?

This is only one subject that is very important and should be considered when voting in November. For a chance to extend personal choices and new ideas, vote Republican in November.
