Lambs Farm offers fall events
As the air becomes crisp and the leaves start to turn, Lambs Farm gets ready for its annual fall festivities. This season's offerings feature pumpkins, barbecue, ghostly goblins and more. All events take place at Lambs Farm, 14245 W. Rockland Road, Libertyville.
Pick a pumpkin
Find the perfect pumpkin, gourd or corn stalk to decorate your home for Halloween at Lambs Farm's pumpkin patch, which is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily in October. Complete your look with straw bales and corn trios. Children can take pictures with Big Bird or Frankenstein. For details, call (847) 990-3760.
Eerie evening fun
Calling all ghosts and goblins: Lambs Farm's Haunted Harvest offers a spooky celebration full of pulse-quickening adventures for all ages. This annual fall event transforms the Lambs Farm Farmyard into a colorfully eerie Halloween festival from 6 to 10 p.m. Saturdays in October.
Take a turn at Graveyard Golf, which offers miniature golf among tombstones and other ghastly sights, or go on the Creature Walk, which leads visitors through the darkened farmyard.
Young children can take a spin on the Enchanted Carousel, and kids and adults alike can try their hand at games on the Monster Midway.
Not for the faint of heart is the Train of Terror, a spine-tingling journey through the creature-filled woods around Lambs Lake, featuring scary vignettes, live monsters and ghouls lurking in the pitch-black forest.
If you get hungry, the Cauldron Café offers treats, sweets and warm beverages.
Admission is $15 for an all-night pass, free for children ages 35 months and younger with the purchase of an adult pass. Individual pricing is also available.
Slow cooking
Not into the scary stuff? Maybe the fifth annual Barn Burner BBQ Friday and Saturday, Oct. 15-16, is more your style.
More than 20 teams will compete in this barbecue competition in the hopes of walking away with the title of Grand Champion and the chance to compete at the Jack Daniels World Championship.
The smoky food festival, sanctioned by the Kansas City Barbeque Society, will also feature the Chili Challenge Cook-Off Friday. Purchase a tasting spoon for the opportunity to help choose a chili champion.
Besides the food, there will be vendors and live music, too. It takes place from 5 to 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 15, and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16. The event is free for spectators.
To register your barbecue team or for details, e-mail crs@lambsfarm.org or call (847) 990-3750.
Happy Halloween
Don't forget about Halloween. The Little Goblins Gathering invites children to wear their favorite costume, play games, participate in activities and make crafts from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 30. There will also be a costume contest for children and their pets. For details, e-mail crs@lambsfarm.org or call (847) 990-3750.
