Warren wins NSC Lake on Eddy’s goal

Warren’s boys soccer controlled its own destiny, and delivered.

And then the Blue Devils got a little help.

Needing a victory over host Stevenson on Tuesday to clinch a share of the North Suburban Conference Lake Division, Warren got just that thanks to a goal by Billy Eddy in the 70th minute off an assist from Brandon Brown.

Then by virtue of Lake Forest’s 2-1 win over Libertyville, Warren wound up winning the NSC Lake outright. The Blue Devils will host either Round Lake or Lakes in the NSC championship game next Tuesday.

Warren (11-5-3, 4-1-1) scored in the 31st minute, as Danny Szczepanek finished a Connor Solis pass and was tied with Stevenson (8-5-3, 2-2-1) at halftime. Blue Devils keeper Brady Walsh made 6 saves.

Lake Forest 2, Libertyville 1: The loss was costly for the Wildcats, who wound up 3-2-1 in the North Suburban Lake.Wauconda 1, Grant 0: Christian Avitia knocked in the North Suburban Prairie game#146;s only goal in the 26th minute, with Luis Rodarte assisting.Rolando Hernandez earned the shutout in goal for Wauconda (10-7-2, 2-2-1).Grant keeper Anthony Pecorini made 5 saves. Grant (9-8) fell to 2-3 in the NSC Prairie.Lake Zurich 5, Zion-Benton 1: Colin Rathe scored twice, and Jose Corral had a goal and 3 assists, as the Bears won their North Suburban Lake finale. Lake Zurich (10-5-2, 3-2-1) also got goals from John Pothast and Nate Holicky. Mark Osikowicz also had an assist.Antioch 2, North Chicago 0: Jesus Castillo scored and assisted on Ryan Geidner#146;s goal, as the Sequoits completed North Suburban Prairie action.Alex Grimm had 6 saves in earning the shutout for Antioch (15-2-2, 3-1-2).Vernon Hills 1, Grayslake North 0: Jeremy Cohen laced in a 35-yard shot, and Andy Clark made 13 saves in goal, as the Cougars (5-11-1) won the nonconference match.
