Are corporations really so evil?

After watching interviews with some of the One Nation Working Together protesters, I am at a loss to understand their hatred of "evil corporations."

Do you like the convenience of being able to drive to the corner to buy a gallon of milk or fill up your car? To choose from a variety of clothing options? To choose between pizza, hamburgers or fine Italian cuisine for dinner? Watching a movie at home or at a theater? If you're like most of us who still have jobs, do you like being able to go to work for a steady paycheck? All of these options and conveniences are brought to you by you guessed it corporations.

Whether large or small, the corporate investment in time, money and risk usually results in years of losses before a profit is ever realized, if at all.

The investment is poured into the local economy in purchases of products and supplies, advertising, and jobs, often never to return to the business owner again.

This happens on a far greater scale with large corporations.

The business-to-business market is a huge sector of our economy.

A single purchase of a bottle of shampoo involves several companies, the bottle maker, the cap maker, the fragrance vendor, the freight companies, and so on. Corporate advertising dollars bring you the Internet, television, magazines and newspapers.

It seems that "profit" is synonymous with evil. In business, profit is a sign of good financial health. Few people seem to understand that profit is something that is not guaranteed.

The risk that businesses take provides great benefit to society, in choice, convenience and jobs, often more benefit than the corporations realize for themselves.

So next time you're buying a gallon of milk at the corner, thank a corporation.
