Stove fire damages Buffalo Grove home

Buffalo Grove authorities said a pan left on a stove caused a fire in the 600 block of Thompson Road Monday night.

Cmdr. Steve Husak of the Buffalo Grove Police Department said police and fire responders saw flames in the kitchen of a home when they were called to the scene at 9 p.m.

Husak said the homeowner went shopping and came home and saw the flames. She tried to smother the flames with a towel, and slightly burned her hand. he added.

He said she was checked at the scene, but refused to be transported to the hospital.

Fire officials said the investigation revealed a pan had been left on the stove. The pan caught fire, which melted the microwave. However, fire fighters were able to put out the flames before it could spread.
