Power surges plague Elgin's west side
A ComEd spokeswoman said there is no need for residents on Elgin's west side to flip their circuit breakers.
Earlier Monday, Elgin police advised residents of the Highland Glen subdivision on the city's west side to turn off their home's main electrical breakers after reports of power surges and electrical shorts in the morning.
Police said ComEd crews were in the area and investigating; the subdivision includes homes north of Highland Avenue and west of Randall Road.
Police said firefighters were called to the Apostolic Christian Resthaven, 2750 W. Highland Ave., at 6:45 a.m. Monday after complaints of lights flickering and electrical outlets popping.
ComEd spokeswoman Krissy Posey said crews responded to 2750 W. Highland and found a tree limb down on a nearby power line. She said crews fixed the problem.
"We did not see a need for customers to turn off their electrical boxes," she said. "It appears everything was returned to normal after 7 a.m."
David Stieglitz, administrator at the Apostolic Christian Resthaven, said the skilled nursing facility, which houses 47 residents, did have a false fire alarm Monday morning, but other than that it was business as usual.
