Fatal crash in Hampshire Township

A 61-year-old Hampshire woman died after crashing into a dump truck in Hampshire Township Tuesday afternoon, according to the Kane County sheriff's office.

Brenda Kuras was driving a 1998 Chevy Cavalier east on Route 72 west of Walker Road when, for an unknown reason, she crossed into westbound traffic and struck a dump truck head-on, according to the sheriff's office.

The driver of the 1999 Mac dump truck, a 42-year-old Elgin man, was unable to avoid the collision, according to police.

Kuras, who was not wearing a seat belt, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to police. The vehicle's air bags did deploy.

The driver of the dump truck was taken to Provena St. Joseph Hospital in Elgin and treated for nonlife-threatening injuries.

The truck, owned by Jesus Murillo Trucking in Elgin, was carrying a load of crushed concrete, according to police.

Route 72 was still closed between Walker and Engel roads until early Tuesday evening.

No tickets had been issued, according to police.
