Arlington Hts. trash decision smells bad
To the editor: To reiterate Cindy Barry and Amy Somary why couldn't the village board have done a better job by having a forum about the garbage collection contract instead of just listening to the 20 or so residents who came to the meeting expressing their dismay about large bins and only wanting two times per week collection.
This should have been an important enough decision to have made sure that more residents could have attended a discussion and that the village board would have been interested in hearing more discussion. I was unable to attend on that day, but would have if a forum had been available. I also thank Mr. Farwell for listening.
I never even heard who got to actually take the survey and what the results were. I agree with Amy that maybe $50 per year savings isn't a lot, but any savings in this economy would be welcomed. I also agree with Amy that I would rather donate that $50 to our fabulous library or some other local charity.
I also have the same problem with so little garbage on one day a week hardly enough to fill one bag for two people but 2 recycling bins full each week.
It seems that as people recycle, the recycling bins get fuller and the garbage is less, which really does not speak to twice a week pickup. Maybe there should be a fee on white goods, larger items and technology items for pickup.
