Prosecutor: Man driving wrong way had smoked crack
A Cook County prosecutor says a man accused of speeding his car down the wrong side of the street and then punching two police officers was under the influence of crack cocaine.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports that Assistant State's Attorney Yolanda Lippert says that shortly after he was arrested early Sunday, 50-year-old Alvin Herbert admitted that he'd smoked crack.
Authorities say Herbert was spotted running a stop sign on the city's far south Side and then drive north in the southbound lanes of a street. They say when he stopped he tried to punch the officers and speed away before police shot out one of his tires.
