Antioch bounces back in a big way
There's nothing wrong with Antioch's game these days.
Except, of course, for that one setback a week ago against Vernon Hills.
The Sequoits recovered quickly on the road and rolled past host North Chicago 57-6 in a North Suburban Prairie Division game on Friday night.
"It was a nice win and we needed to get the bad taste out of our mouths," Antioch coach Brian Glashagel said. "It was the challenge all week for us. We had a real good week of practice offensively and it showed. Also the defense showed a lot, too."
Antioch (5-1, 3-1) let its defense stop North Chicago (1-5, 1-2) on its opening 15-play drive and kept the warhawks away from the end zone.
The Sequoits took over in a hurry in just one play and 12 seconds. Vinnie Holm (13 carries, 157 and 2 rushing TDs) broke loose for a 67-yard touchdown run for a 7-0 advantage with 6:19 left in the opening quarter.
(Holm) makes plays all the time," Glashagel said. "A one-play drive that's nice to see sometimes."
Holm left the game later in the third quarter after an injury and didn't return.
"He did tweak his knee and should be alright," Glashagel said. "With the way the score was going. We just shut him down."
Antioch ran away from North Chicago in the second quarter. Wide receiver Brett Prather (3 catches, 60 yards) caught touchdown passes of 25 and 10 yards from quarterback Tom Sears and the Sequoits led at the half 21-0.
"The run was getting stopped, so we decided to pass the ball a bit," said Prather, who also had 3 TDs against Wauconda earlier this season. "I was led perfectly and was able to make the catch."
Prather added another touchdown reception of 25 yards on an halfback option pass from Sam Green in the second half.
The other scores were from Holm on an 11-yard scamper, Dan Arden on a 10-yard run and Tyler Bradley on runs of 3 and 11 yards. Also, the Sequiots got a safety when Kurtis Vepley tackled the Warhawks' Julian Amos in the end zone.
North Chicago got a touchdown with no time left, when Keenan Handy caught a 35-yard pass from Jermaine Garrett.
