Women charged with making fake IDs

Arlington Heights police charged two Aurora women with making and possessing fake identification cards and driver's licenses.

Martha Perez, 33, and Angelica Mondragon, 37, both of the 1300 block of Monomoy Street, were each charged with two counts of having and manufacturing the identification cards, class 3 felonies.

Cook County Judge Ellen Beth Mandeltort set bond at $50,000 for each of the women Saturday.

Their arrests were the result of an eight-week investigation following a tip Arlington Heights police received.

An undercover officer first met with Perez and Mondragon at their Aurora residence on Sept. 21 to discuss details of having a false identification card made. He was given a business card written in Spanish explaining that the women made the identification cards to help people find jobs.

The next day he returned and paid the women $120 to make a card with his picture, said Assistant State's Attorney Lesley Gool.

Police conducted a surveillance and then arrested the women on Friday, when police say the two admitted to making the cards. Police confiscated the equipment in their residence used for the production.

Perez, who is not in the United States legally, also has a small business selling auto parts in Mexico, Gool said. Mondragon, also living here illegally, recently worked at a coffee shop and a printing company, Gool added.

The women will appear in court next on Oct. 25.
