Scouting Montini at Marian Central
Montini (3-2, 2-0) at Marian Central (3-2, 1-1)
Game time: 7 p.m. today.
Last year: Marian Central 20, Montini 14; Montini 42, Marian Central 21 (playoffs).
Last week: Montini 48, Aurora Central Catholic 0; Marian Central 54, Immaculate Conception 7.
Outlook: The defensive focus for Montini is Marian Central tailback Corey Cavitt, who last week ran for 105 yards and 3 touchdowns and is a horse with cutback abilities. It may be tougher to slow Cavitt without defensive tackle Zech "Bubba" Tredenick (knee). Marian's 6-foot-7 quarterback Ben Krol throws a nice ball yet is not too mobile, coming off ACL surgery. On offense Montini senior Dimitri Willis has gotten on a roll as the go-to running back in the Broncos' spread offense. Broncos coach Chris Andriano points to special teams as a potential difference-maker in this rugged affair, in particular kick returners Jordan Westerkamp and Anthony Taylor.
Next week: Aurora Christian at Montini; Marian Central at St. Francis.
